Long-term use of osteoporosis drugs linked to hip breaks
I believe one day we’ll look back on chronic disease medications we’re supposed to take every day for decades and finally realize that reductionist medicine via a simple pill never really worked.
The article refers to women over the age of 50 who use these bisphosphonate drugs for more than 5 years. I’ve been on Fosamax+D for about 2.5 years, but am also a 27-year-old male who was diagnosed with osteoporosis caused by prolonged use of prednisone, and thus in a very small minority of users. I have to wonder how this news affects me.
