Remicade Round #2
Just finishing up my second infusion of Remicade. The actual dose took about 2 hours to drain into me and was painless other than getting the needle put in. I listened to music, snoozed, and surfed the innertubes while Jeanine read her Cosmo and kept me company.
So far I feel like a million bucks. Let’s hope it keeps up!
Continuing recovery at home
Finally getting out of the hospital and being able to go home has been a lot different than I expected.
First off, it took me two nights to readjust to sleeping in my own bed. When I first got back I found it hard to actually get a good night’s sleep due to (1) it being eerily quite when I laid down and (2) I didn’t have someone coming in and waking me up every three hours to draw...
Thank You
I just wanted to send out a thanks to everyone who has offered me words of support and encouragement over the past two weeks. Your mind can start playing games with you when you’re stuck in there so long.
I still have a ways to go with recovery (such as the 20lbs I managed to shed), but it’ll be a lot easier now that I am at home again.
Homeward Bound
The doc stopped in this morning and said he thinks it’s time to cut me loose. As soon as they get all the paperwork finalized and my perscriptions written I will be on my way.
I
French toast for breakfast and an open-face turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes for lunch. They tell me I must still be sick if the food here tastes good. I think I’ve been deprived for so long now that anything would please my taste buds.
The doc says that I might be going home tomorrow!
They’re going to see how I do at dinner and then after breakfast tomorrow he’s going to...
Sigh
Dinner was a complete disaster that I’m still paying for.
Maybe tomorrow will be better…
Some Good News
Today has been a good day.
I say that not only because my symptoms have been slightly less than the past two days, but also because I jut received a visit from the doc.
He said that my timing with all of this couldn’t be better—the surgeon he was thinking of consulting with is out of the country for a couple weeks. Not the best news to start on.
I guess he did some consulting with...
Quick Update
Today has been quite possibly the longest day yet at the hospital (other than when I got scoped and found how just how bad things were). I think it was due to a combination of the following things:
-crappy performances by both Cleveland sports teams -nothing really good on TV to watch -an increase in both mental and physical fatigue from lack of nutrition -generally just being sick and tired of...
The Roadmap
This morning I met with the on-call Gastroenterologist (who is, ironically, the doc I was originally diagnosed by and saw up until last summer). Together we laid out the roadmap for the next month or so of my life…
When it comes to Remicade, it actually takes two infusions before the doctors begin to assess its effects. The only problem is that the second dose cannot come until two weeks...
Colon: FAIL
The colonoscopy this morning turned up evidence of “very severe imflamation” throughout the entire left side of my large intestine. Fourteen hours later, I still cannot get the images the doctor took out of my mind.
Afterward I was immediately started on an infusion of Remicade (no link provided because I’m typing this on my iPod). This is a drug that when it was first propsed...
Roto Rooter
Still in the hospital and going under for a colonoscopy in the morning. It’ll be my third one since being diagnosed four years ago.
The fun continues…
Unexpected Va-Ca (#2)
Mom’s on her way over to take me back to the hospital. I feel worse now than I did when I went in the first time…and I’ve only been home for 27 hours!
Shoot me now.
